November 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a day to pause, reflect, and most importantly, take action against a harsh reality that affects millions worldwide.
Violence against women and girls remains one of the most widespread, persistent, and devastating human rights violations in our world. It continues to be a silent epidemic, often hidden away due to fear, shame, and a lack of consequences for those who commit it. It's happening, and is something that should not be ignored.
An estimated 736 million women—almost one in three—have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their lives (30% of women aged 15 and older). Adolescent girls are particularly vulnerable, facing an even higher risk of intimate-partner violence than adult women. By the age of 19, nearly one in four (24%) adolescent girls who have been in a relationship have already endured physical, sexual, or psychological abuse by a partner. Furthermore, women with disabilities report an even higher rate of all forms of intimate partner violence, highlighting intersecting vulnerabilities. In 2020, for every 10 victims of human trafficking detected globally, four were adult women and two were girls, revealing the profound exploitation women and girls endure.
TP is committed to empowering women and combating gender-based violence. TP Women seeks to address the challenges faced by women in the workplace and drive positive change by promoting gender equality and women empowerment while also raising awareness on topics that greatly affect women today.
Here are a few of TP Women’s initiatives:
Malaysia
Earlier this year, TP launched an impactful donation drive for underprivileged women in Malaysia together with Penang Women's Development Corporation. The funds raised were donated to Persatuan Pembela Wanita Pulau Pinang, a vital transitional home that offers a safe and nurturing environment for women who have faced exploitation, violence, or are in crisis.
Tunisia
TP has a long-standing commitment to supporting women and families in Tunisia. A key partner in this initiative is Fondation Agir Contre l’Exclusion (FACE), which supports women survivors of violence and families navigating economic hardship.
Spain
TP paid for the race bibs for employees who participated in women’s races held in Madrid and Coruña, Spain. These races had a goal to raise awareness and provide support for causes directly affecting women, including breast cancer, gender violence, social inclusion, and the promotion of sport. In total, 140 female participants joined the previous races. An upcoming race is slated to take place in Zaragoza City, where 116 employees are expected to join.
International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women reminds us that the fight for gender equality is ongoing and requires collective action. TP stands with women globally, always striving to actively contribute to a future free from violence for all women and girls.
