We launched our Citizen of the Planet (COTP) initiative in 2008. Since then, we’ve stayed focused on what matters. Educating, reducing our carbon footprint, and taking practical action to protect the planet we all depend on.
TP has been recognized with a CDP A- score, reflecting strong climate risk management and environmental transparency. This places TP among the top-performing companies globally assessed by CDP. The assessment underscores TP’s commitment to responsible operations, climate risk management, and long-term environmental stewardship.
The Citizen of the Planet (COTP) program guides the way we operate, helping us reduce our environmental footprint across our workplaces and teams worldwide. From smarter buildings to everyday actions by our people, we focus on changes that make a real difference. Beyond our own operations, we work side by side with partners and local communities to support urgent environmental action where it matters most.
Our documentary, TP and One Tree Planted: Restoring life through reforestation, takes you on a journey through our reforestation efforts, including the restoration of the Leiria Pine Forest, a vital ecosystem woven into Portugal’s culture, history, and sustainability. Join us on this field trip as we showcase the real impact of collective action.
Driving measurable climate action
We stepped up our own climate objectives by committing to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). This includes a greenhouse gas emissions target in accordance with the Paris Agreement signed by 196 parties at the UN Climate Change Conference in 2015.
The Science Based Targets Initiative has validated that the science-based greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets submitted by TP are in line with a 1.5°C trajectory.
Committed to net-zero leadership
TP was one of the first 100 signatories to join the @ClimatePledge, a drive to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement’s 2050 goal. We are committed to: report greenhouse gas emissions regularly, implement decarbonization strategies, and neutralize remaining carbon emissions with quantifiable, socially beneficial offsets.
As we focus on these key strategies globally, we comply with local environmental laws and regulations and track progress with a management system meeting ISO Standard 14001.
