Observing International Day of Education

TP - 01.19.2026

Every year in January, the world celebrates International Day of Education. As stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, education is a human right and should be accessible to all. But according to the United Nations, 244 million children and adolescents are out of school, and 617 million lack basic literacy and numeracy skills. Education offers children a ladder out of poverty and a path to a promising future.

At TP, we understand that it is our collective responsibility to support education for future generations to thrive. Here are a few initiatives that contribute to the cause:

USA

In the United States, we continue our 20‑year partnership with Feed the Children, supporting local communities by providing food for families in need such as essential school supplies for children in Title‑One schools and assistance during natural disasters. Last year, TP volunteers distributed 864 backpacks to six Title‑One schools across the country, helping ensure students start the school year equipped with the resources they need to thrive.

Portugal

For the start of the 2025 school year, TP supported 100 children in Portugal through a national back‑to‑school campaign that brought our teams together for a meaningful cause. Over the course of nearly 300 volunteering hours, our volunteers packed school kits, shared laughs and stories, watched movies, and even welcomed children into our E-Sports Arena. With the help of more than 150 colleagues who donated supplies, volunteered, and spent time with the students, we collected over 2,000 essential school items. These were delivered during a special visit to the Instituto de Apoio à Criança, helping ensure that children began the year with confidence.

Colombia

In Colombia, the English Teaching initiative brings our employees together to volunteer and share their language skills with children across the country. More than 150 children have improved their English and increased their access to future professional opportunities.

Mexico

In Mexico, TP offers the Youth Training Program, which provides workshops for university students and young job seekers. The program focuses on essential skills such as interview preparation, resume writing, emotional intelligence, and other soft skills, helping participants showcase their abilities better and get the job of their dreams.

Philippines

The TP Skills Training to Employment Program (TP STEP) supports underserved communities with high unemployment by providing targeted training in both soft and technical skills. The program prepares participants for roles in the IT, BPO, and services sectors. In addition, TP Philippines hosts English Communication webinars open to all, further expanding access to skills development.

Brigada Eskwela, which translates to "School Brigade," is another initiative. It is held in public elementary and secondary schools in the Philippines, typically a few weeks before the official start of the new school year. Its primary goal is to prepare school facilities for the learners and teachers to ensure a clean, safe, and conducive learning environment.

South Africa

In South Africa, TP delivers a range of education and employability initiatives designed to support young people at different stages of their learning and career journeys. One of the initiatives is the Data Analytics Program that offers high school graduates a 12-month accredited course. Alongside certification, participants receive mentorship, improving their employability and readiness for entry-level roles in data and technology-driven fields.

Another inspiring project is the HotSpot Library initiative, which provides a safe, supportive environment where students of all ages can study after school, use educational resources, and receive guidance.

Let’s continue to observe the International Day of Education and celebrate the role of education for future generations!
