What comes after the setback: TP and Project Athena

TP - 02.16.2026

Behind every success is a resilient person. Challenges and setbacks are a universal part of human life, but whether someone has the support to move forward is what makes the difference.

That’s the purpose of Project Athena.

Project Athena is a nonprofit organization that supports survivors of medical challenges by helping them set and reach ambitious athletic goals. They provide travel expenses, coaching, equipment, and most importantly, the encouragement and inspiration needed to help them make the transition from survivor to athlete. This mission deeply resonates with us, as behind every challenge is courage and resilience.

As Project Athena’s founder Robyn Benincasa, who experienced her own medical setback, puts it: “Why did Project Athena become a reality? Because sometimes a setback offers us a beautiful gift.”

Project Athena and TP

In 2025, seven of our team members in the USA signed up for a 21-week training program designed to rebuild their confidence and rediscover their strength. The training finished with a three-day endurance challenge combining kayaking and cycling.

Over three full days, they covered around 120 miles in total, about 40 miles by kayak and 80 miles by bike. These adventures allowed participants to challenge themselves in a fun, non-competitive way while exploring beautiful locations and reconnecting with nature.

Project Athena’s participants shared their experiences that proved that they are capable of far more than they ever imagined.

“This adventure was truly life changing. Every part of the experience challenged me in ways I didn’t expect, but being surrounded by such positive, encouraging people like our TP Gods and Goddesses made all the difference. The entire experience was unforgettable, and it left me feeling stronger, grateful, and deeply connected to everyone involved. I would absolutely love to do this every year and take part in even more Project Athena adventures,” raved Kathleen Burns.

“Last year, I was given a gift that changed me. Not just a trip, but a reminder of who I am beyond cancer. As a cancer survivor, I arrived carrying more than a backpack and a duffle; I carried the weight of everything cancer leaves behind. The constant push to be strong. The fatigue no one sees. The quiet rebuilding that happens long after treatment ends. What I found instead was healing. Strength, community, joy. I found pieces of myself I didn’t even realize cancer had snuffed out,” shared Lee Brigido.

“The support I received from our TP Gods and Goddesses was nothing short of amazing. They rooted for us through training, and they were with us on our adventure doing whatever it takes to ensure every one of us crossed the finish line. I was lucky enough to have two TP employees as anchors in my kayak. These are people I will cherish forever. It was truly a life-changing experience,” said Doddie Sullivan.

Future plans

So far, TP has donated $28,000 to support this inspiring cause. And our journey with Project Athena continues.

TP has already committed to provide additional support in donations for 2026. Four of our employees are currently signed up to take on the challenge this year.

Project Athena proves what people are capable of when they are supported, believed in, and surrounded by a community that sees their potential in spite of challenges.
